through collaborating images that celebrate queer positivity.

Guest Speaker is Sean James. Sean will be speaking on the popular topic of Xeriscaping.  Xeriscaping is an environmental design of the land to reduce water usage.
This event also features a garden market, door prizes, certificate presentations to long term volunteers and to our Honorary Heritage Gardener by City of North Bay Mayor Al McDonald. The celebration will be completed with a lovely buffet lunch.

CALLANDER’S 1ST ANNUAL SINGING COMPETITION

Come and help Callander help celebrate their 125th anniversary by showing us that you have talent.
The 1st Annual Singing Competition will take place on March 26, 2011, at the Callander Community Center on Swale Street in Callander.
The first place winners will receive $100 cash and prizes. Prizes will be awarded to second and third place winners in all categories.
The first 60 contestants will compete in Junior, Youth and Adult open categories.

HERITAGE GARDENERS

You are invited to share in an Evening of Education with the Heritage Gardeners.
On Wednesday March  9, 2011 at 7:00 pm, Dorothy Stewart will help us identify the best plants for our plant hardiness zone which  in the area of the city below the escarpment is considered to be zone 4. Dorothy grew up in Sudbury during the years the landscape in the area resembled that of the moon. 
Please call the Heritage Gardener Coordinator by noon on March 9, 2011 to register for this educational session. Call Monica McLaren at 472-4006. Doors will open at 6:45.
Bring your own mug for a cup of Organic coffee or Organic Tea.

Big Sisters

GIRLS ON THE MOVE! is an exciting program offered by Big Brothers Big Sisters of North Bay and District, City Of North Bay, Canadian Association for the Advancement of Women and Sport and Physical Activity (CAAWS), Northeastern Ontario Recreation Association and the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit for girls and young women age 9-18.

The goal of GIRLS ON THE MOVE is to provide girls with information and support to make informed choices about active living, healthy eating, having fun and feeling good. A group of 15 girls (maximum) will be paired with female staff from Big Brothers Big Sisters and On the Move. The program will consist of eight 2 hour sessions. Each session will be fun-filled, active, and informative.
Running shoes and comfortable clothing will be required.

Habitat for Humanity

GOOD NEWS ANNOUNCEMENT!

Our Affiliate, Habitat for Humanity North Bay and Blue Sky Region,has acquired two properties for the 2011 Build. The location of these properties will be announced as soon as the lawyers transfer the title which will be the first part of January 2011.
Meeting the deadline, we have secured the COAHP granted funds for each of the two families. These funds will be payable from DNSSAB to our Affiliate at the time of title transfer, probably late 2011, into the respective families’ name.
These funds will benefit our abilities to build more homes maintaining sustainability for years to come.

Callander Volunteer Firefighters and their spousal auxiallry Flames

proudly present their annual Christmas Craft Show and Sale. Often referred to as the “Best Little Craft Show in the Near North Area”, this years event will be held on Saturday Nov. 13th, from 9AM to 3PM at the Callander Community Center.
With over 30 venders, there is sure to be something for everyone.
Once again the “Burnt Offering Cafe” will feature our world famous sticky buns and chicken soup.
In lieu of an admission fee, donations to the Callander and District Food Bank will be collected.

Phelps Women’s Institute

June 8th is our Veggie Floral Basket Creations workshop and June 22nd is the Mandalla Bead bracelets workshop held at the Mattawa Women’s Resource Centre located at 385 Pine St. Mattawa from 1pm - 3pm. Our workshops are open to women 16 years and up. There is no cost, a tasty snack is provided and laughter is guaranteed!

Families are invited to walk, roll and cycle and enjoy a fun-filled afternoon of activities to raise awareness and funds for families in our area living with Autism Spectrum Disorder. The registration, activities and barbecue begin at noon and the cycle begins at 1 pm.
