Although I am happy that our society, on some level, is finally acknowledging the earth, it seems paltry some how that we would only honour her for one day a year, when she provides for us each and every day. Some say that at least we have ONE designated day. To them I say, “THIS is not enough.”
Recently I attended an inspiring lecture at Nipissing University on women and activism by the Leader of the Federal Green Party, Elizabeth May. Being a 32 year young woman, new business owner and a hopeful mother some day, it seemed appropriate that I attend a lecture by a Federal leader that supports our FUTURE. Elizabeth discussed the importance of incorporating activism into our daily lives and indicated that the act of talking without doing is futile.
This is my mantra, which is why I decided to marry activism and business in my most recent venture, North Bay’s newest eco-friendly and globally ethical boutique, Soul Sister Creations.
This quaint little storefront on Oak Street West is filled with fair trade and Canadian women-made items that minimize our eco-footprint on our great Mother Earth. Soul Sister Creations strives to be a transparent business that honours our earth, as well as our global sisters and ensures that they are paid fairly for their gifts. We have reverted back to before mass-production and the “Made in China” era when a retail boutique consisted of hand-made items, and a customer could learn the who and how behind each item. Soul Sister Creations is an example of a new generation of business that supports a new balance between the future of our earth and the economy.
May I say, not just on April 22nd, but every day, shop for the earth and you will be shopping for your future.
